You're fired!
Just found out yesterday that the Finance Manager of my last client got fired right after we completed the audit. I was shocked!
I mean, yes, the audit didn’t go as efficiently as it should have, but which ones does? But then again, this has apparently been going on for a while. And when we were out there, he apparently wasn’t looked upon too fondly by his staff (and the Board, who sacked him).
When the CEO came in a few times and asked us whether the audit was running efficiently, I should’ve told him that yes, it was efficient, instead of saying that it wasn’t. Oh dear, I hope I didn’t cost him his job.
My senior manager assured me that it wasn’t from my comments.

Since the CEO said that it's not due to ur comments, then you should not be blamming on yourself. Think about it positively, probably it's something about professionality.
words are much sharper than any greatest sword ever made. but decision all goes the CEO so i don't you'd have anything to do with it at all
Ah, the things we say that we wish we hadn't said afterward.
Probably a good word from you wouldn't have saved him anyway ... sounds like the company had already made up it's mind to ditch him. But yeah, it's the kind of thing you feel bad about.
